On Show at Salon Villa Erxleben "From Treasure to Trash to Treasure": Chandeliers and Objects of the South African artist group
MAGPIE ART COLLECTIVE.
Working with the aesthetic of using found objects and detritus to create things of beauty out of what we would normally consider trash,
their unique, environmentally conscious works are made of recycled materials like plastics, tins, water bottles, and found objects.
At 7:00pm:
Special guest is Sean Daniel, member of Magpie ART COLLECTIVE, visiting from South Africa, in dialogue with Babette Woltemath,
(artist, designer, collector and founder of WarenArt Gallery). They will discuss Magpie's up-cycled art practice in the context
of South African art and design.

Objekte des südafrikanischen Künstlerkollektivs “Magpie” sind im Salon Villa Erxleben zu sehen:
Die Lichtkunstwerke (Chandeliers) sowie Kunstobjekte sind Kreationen, die aus recycelten Materialien entstanden sind,
beeindrucken nicht nur durch ihre Größe, sondern auch durch ihre Komplexität,
vor allem aber durch ihre Eigenschaft als Botschafter oder im Kontext der Veranstaltungsreihe "Double Agents" - als Doppelagenten:
Die royalen Chandeliers die Kolonisatoren vor 500 Jahren nach Afrika brachten, kehren nun zu uns,
in die sogenannte "Erste Welt" in Trash-Version zurück.
Was als dekorative, wenn auch gewagte Lounge-Dekoration oder Wohnzimmer-Leuchte daherkommt, ist ein verborgenes Achtungszeichen.
So schön die Objekte von Magpie auch sind - sie sind in Wirklichkeit Repräsentanten des Zivilisations-Mülls, Zeugen des Überflusses,
an dem die Welt heute einerseits zu ersticken droht, während andererseits Tausende ertrinken oder verhungern,
ohne ein Minimum an Überlebensnotwendigem von diesem Überfluss abzubekommen.
Die Objekte von MAGPIE ART COLLECTIVE finden mittlerweile internationalen Anklang.
2 Chandeliers von MAGPIE ART COLLECTIVE hingen bei den Obamas im Weißen Haus.
Zuletzt wurden Arbeiten der Künstlergruppe MAGPIE ART COLLECTIVE aus Südafrika in Berlin bei MOMENTUM
in der Ausstellung „WATER (PROOF)“ von MOMENTUM gezeigt.
Ab 19:00
wird einer Künstler von MAGPIE, Sean Daniel, im Gespräch mit Babette Woltemath
(Künstlerin, Designerin, Sammlerin und Gründerin der Galerie Warenart)
über die tägliche Arbeit der Künstlergruppe in Südafrika und ihr Selbstverständnis als "Doppelagenten" sprechen.
